JIRA Client 2.2 Beta 1 Released

April 6, 2010

Today we release the first beta version of JIRA Client 2.2 and JIRA Client Lite 2.2, our desktop clients for Atlassian JIRA. This version adds support for JIRA 4.1, along with some user interface improvements and bug fixes.

Support for JIRA 4.1

With a revamped user interface and many internal improvements, JIRA 4.1 is definitely worth trying. Unfortunately, due to all those changes made by Atlassian, older versions of JIRA Client will not work properly with JIRA 4.1. This version adds support for Atlassian's newest issue tracker.

Further user interface improvements

Here's what we came up with in our continued effort to make your user experience better:

  • On Windows and Linux JIRA Client now consistently respects your operating system's font rendering settings, including subpixel anti-aliasing, better known to Windows users as ClearType. So all the text you see should now look better.
  • Reloading server-side configuration can be a lengthy operation, so now you can invoke it separately for individual connections, using the new command in the pop-up menu. Hopefully this will save you some time and network traffic when you know exactly which changes you want.
  • In the query result table a new column is available that represents issue status, type, and priority in the most compact way — as icons. Use it to save some screen space when you have a lot of columns in the table. The column is named "Status, Type, Priority icons," don't miss it.
  • On Mac OS X and Linux, the Quick Export command has been added, which was previously only available on Windows. What it means is "repeat the last export operation and open the file in the associated application." The commands to reveal and open downloaded attachments have made their way into the Mac and Linux versions too.
  • The Merge dialog now has toolbar buttons for conflict resolutions, and the issue table configuration dialog has also become better.
  • All the text input fields now have pop-up menus with Copy, Paste, and other text manipulation commands. These were previously absent on Windows and Mac OS X.

Bug fixes

A few bugs have been fixed for this version, involving text search highlighting, handling of e-mail links in comments and descriptions, a couple of Time Tracker issues, and some more. Detailed information is available in the change log.

Upgrading to JIRA Client 2.2 Beta 1

To upgrade from a previous version:

  1. Backup your workspace.
  2. Install the new version over the old one and start JIRA Client.
  3. Reload JIRA configuration using Connection | Reload JIRA Configuration.

This version may be used in a free 30-day trial mode or with any JIRA Client license key with active maintenance subscription.

JIRA Client 2.2 Beta 1 will stop working on July 5, 2010. Please upgrade to the latest release version before that time.

As always, we'd like to know your opinion. If you are experiencing a problem or need a feature, please raise an issue in our issue tracker.
