Deskzilla 3.0 Beta 3 Released
May 24, 2011
Today we release Deskzilla 3.0 Beta 3 — with better performance and fewer bugs. If you haven't seen Deskzilla 3.0 yet, now is a great time to try! It brings many new features and improvements, which we described in our earlier announcements.
What's New Since Beta 2
Our customers have reported that the previous beta was very slow with large workspaces (tens of thousands of bugs). By optimizing local database access throughout the application we were able to improve performance significantly.
Besides that, over a dozen issues have been resolved for this release, most of them being bug reports. The complete list of fixes and improvements is available in the change log.
Early Access License
We only ship Deskzilla Pro this time, just like we did with Beta 1 and Beta 2. However, you shouldn't worry about licensing: Deskzilla 3.0 Beta 3 comes with a fully functional Early Access Program (EAP) license, valid until July 1, 2011.
Upgrading from Deskzilla 2.1 or earlier
Because of the new local database format, the procedure is longer than usual:
- Upload all your local changes before upgrading.
- Back up your workspace.
- Install Deskzilla 3.0 over the older version.
- On the first start Deskzilla will pick up your connections and queries, and re-initialize them; please wait until background synchronization finishes.
- The old local database will be left intact, so you can safely return to your older version at any time.
- You will need to re-download the bugs by running your queries; the bugs will go to the new database this time.
- If you use local tags, you will need to export them from the old database. On Windows and Linux you will find the standalone Tag Exporter in the etc\tagexporter folder of your Deskzilla installation. On Mac OS X please right-click the Deskzilla application and select Show Package Contents, you'll see the Tag Exporter in the Finder window that opens. The Tag Importer is part of Deskzilla 3.0, found under Tools | Import Tags...
Upgrading from Deskzilla 3.0 Beta 1 or Beta 2
Upgrading from an earlier beta is simpler:
- Back up your workspace.
- Install Deskzilla 3.0 Beta 3 over the earlier beta.
- On the first launch, please wait until background synchronization finishes.
- In order to improve performance, Deskzilla will analyze your local database on the first launch. It can be unresponsive for a short while, so please be patient.
As always, we'd like to know your opinion. If you are experiencing a problem or need a feature, please raise an issue in our issue tracker.
